MGS100 Self-Install

Where in a truck is the best place to install MGS100 with OBD-II cable?

The best place to install MGS100 in a vehicle is under the center console. Be sure to secure the device to a metal panel under the dash with zipties and hide all the wires to protect the device from interference from the driver.

The modem plugs into the OBD-II port. Is it easy to tamper with?

The modem is equipped with a back-up battery which will allow the modem to continue reporting even if it has been unplugged from the OBD port.

Will Fleet Complete send out an alert when the device is running on back-up power?

Yes, an alert will be sent to the selected individuals on your team informing them of the device being disconnected from the vehicle’s power source.

How long does the back-up battery last after the main power source has been disconnected?

The back-up battery has a charge of up to 2 hours with the default transmission settings. The battery will recharge once the modem is reconnected to the main power source.

How long does it take for the back-up battery to recharge?

After the modem has been reconnected to the power source, the battery will take 24 hours to recharge.

What is the Default Data Settings (DDS) for MGS100?

The DDS for MGS100 is to record 1 position every 2 min and transmit location data to the server every 6 min. DDS Settings can be adjusted in the Fleet Complete application under Asset Settings.

Can additional sensors, such as door or temperature sensor, be installed with the MGS100 OBD-II kit?

No, the additional sensors can only be installed with the modem that is hardwired into the vehicle’s main power source.

What type of data is MGS100 collecting from the vehicle through the OBD-II cable?

MGS100 collects such data as Ignition Status, Speed, Acceleration/Braking and transmits the data to the Fleet Complete Application. A variety of reports can be run based on the collected information.

Where in a truck is the best place to hardwire an MGS100/200?

The best places to hardwire an MGS100/200 in a vehicle are under the center console, under the dashboard, under the glove compartment or in the trunk. For MGS100, be sure the device is not obstructed by metal to avoid signal interference.

What is the Default Data Settings (DDS) for MGS100/MGS200?

The DDS for MGS100 is to record 1 position every 2 min and transmit location data to the server every 6 min. DDS Settings can be adjusted in the Fleet Complete application under Asset Settings.

Can additional sensors, such as door or temperature sensor, be installed with the MGS100/200?

Yes, the power harness provided with the kit allows up to 4 sensor inputs, such as temperature, door, pto and other sensors.
